How this site makes money

Short version: right now, it doesn't. Here's what happens when that changes.

Where things stand today

Pedal & Pause doesn't earn a dime from anything it writes about. There are no affiliate links on the site, no ads and no sponsored posts. Nobody has sent me a free bike, rack or trailer. When I name a product, I either bought it with my own money or I'm telling you what I learned researching it.

I'm putting that in writing now, before any money shows up, because the rules are easier to follow when you set them before there's a check on the table.

Affiliate links

Someday some links to products may be affiliate links. That means if you click through and buy something, the store pays this site a small commission. It doesn't cost you anything extra. If that happens:

  • Any article with affiliate links will say so at the top, before the first link, not buried at the bottom.
  • If I join Amazon's program, this page will say it in Amazon's own required words.
  • Commission rates won't decide what I recommend. If the best rack for your car pays nothing, it's still the best rack. If a product that pays well isn't worth it, I'll say that too.

Free gear and loaners

If a company lends or gives me something to try, the article will say so plainly, and it will say whether I had to send it back. A free product doesn't buy a good review. Companies don't get to read or approve anything before it's published.

Ads and sponsors

If ads come to the site, they'll be labeled as ads. If a local business ever sponsors a trail guide or the events calendar, its name will appear as a sponsor, and it won't get a say in which lunch stops or events make the list.

The events calendar

Events are listed for free. Nobody pays to get on the calendar, and nobody can pay to get a better spot on it.
